Italian (ITAL)
Offered through our semester in Florence program, ITAL-1000 and ITAL-1020 provide students with an immersion experience in the Italian language. Students gain a basic ability to communicate in the target language and gain understanding and appreciation of Italian culture. Emphasis is on integrating the four skills of the language: speaking/listening/reading and writing in order to provide students with a high novice-low intermediate level of proficiency at the end of the semester. The main subject of the lessons in the class will be the European history in the Middle Ages, between the fall of the Roman Empire to the beginning of the geographical explorations on early XVI century. The course will focus on the most important issues of that period of the European history that gave the basic features of the Western Civilization. The subject of the tours will be the history and the art of the town of Florence and neighboring areas. (AE, HI, WP)
